Dwayne Johnson Talks About Playing Black Adam In Shazam And Solo Film
By Erik Swann
Dwayne Johnson is more than ready to bring Black Adam to the big screen!
We’ve known for a while now that actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is going to play the villainous Black Adam in Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema’s Shazam and in a solo film. Unfortunately, news on both projects has been scarce. However, Johnson has just provided a small update.
While at the world premiere of The Fate of the Furious, he spoke briefly with MTV about both films. He stated that they will be treated mainly as standalone movies, but will eventually come together:
"“So what we decided to do was to create a scenario, where Black Adam has his stand-alone movie, and Captain Marvel, Shazam, has his own stand-alone movie. We’re building our world that way, and then we can come together at some point.”"

Johnson also expressed his excitement about working with DC, and promised that big things are still to come:
"“We’ve had great discussions with Geoff Johns over at DC. This is a really fun, cool time for DC right now because they’re world-building. We’re seeing that with Wonder Woman and Aquaman. We have a few surprises down the line.”"
On top of all this, the actor also hinted at a major surprise in his standalone film, but all he would say on the matter is: “It’s just f**king awesome.”

This isn’t much, but it might be just enough to get some fans pumped. We’ve been waiting to see Johnson play Black Adam since 2014, and the wait hasn’t been easy. With the shifting DC Film slate, production on the projects has been in flux and, as of right now, neither one has a set release date. Let’s just hope that both films arrive sooner rather than later.
Shazam is currently slated to hit theaters in 2019.
