Multiple sources claim Robert Zemeckis is in the running to direct the DCEU’s The Flash.

Via Screen Junkies, we have news that Robert Zemeckis is in the running to direct the DC Extended Universe’s The Flash. There’s no real confirmation yet, but Screen Junkies reports that “multiple sources” are claiming this.

If this is true, it’ll definitely be a breath of fresh air for the fledgling DCEU franchise—especially for The Flash. The film has already lost two previous directors—Seth Grahame-Smith and Rick Famuyiwa—both over creative differences with the studio.

The DCEU has been pretty dark and dank so far, and fans have been worried that the Flash—a usually bright and optimistic character—would not be translated to the big screen correctly. With rumors of Zemeckis’s possible joining, fans are starting to see the light (pun intended) at the end of the tunnel.

Zemeckis is actually a perfect choice. His Back to the Future franchise of the 1980s was both a critical and box-office success that went on to become a cultural phenomenon. And Forrest Gump (1994)—another equally famous film—garnered multiple Academy Awards, including one for Zemeckis’s directing. On top of the accolades, most of Zemeckis’s films have a great balance of humor, adventure, thrills, and wonder—everything the Scarlet Speedster is know for.
