It appears Warner Bros. is looking at directors for 2020’s Green Lantern Corps film, and Rupert Wyatt might be the favorite.

According to That Hashtag Show, Rupert Wyatt is “currently attached” to direct the upcoming Green Lantern Corps movie. The film is a reboot of 2011’s Green Lantern, and will be set in the DC Extended Universe.

Wyatt is most well-known for 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes. That film rebooted the Apes franchise to financial and critical success. The director is currently in post-production on the science fiction thriller Captive State. That film is due to hit theaters in August of 2018.

The report has been brought in to question by many in the industry, however. On Twitter, Umberto Gonzalez of The Wrap stated the Wyatt deal “looks like it might not happen”. Gonzalez also questioned the accuracy of the initial report.

Whether Wyatt does ultimately direct the film or not, it appears WB is looking to nail down a director. Fans of the Green Lantern mythology want a second chance after a poor response to the 2011 film.

Deadline previously reported that the film would be a type of “Lethal Weapon in space”. This rebooted film version of Green Lantern is expected to focus on the Hal Jordan and John Stewart characters.

There had been no news on the project since January when David Goyer and Justin Rhodes were reported to be writing the script. The writing duo is working on a story from Goyer and DC Films’ Geoff Johns.

Green Lantern Corps is currently scheduled for a July 24, 2020 release date. No cast for the film has been announced.
