After months of teasing and preparation, we finally get a first look at Josh Brolin as Nathan Summers / Cable in the upcoming, highly anticipated Deadpool 2. Cable’s venture into 20th Century Fox’s Marvel film universe strikes a great balance between the look of the comics and a gritty aesthetic.

First off, are there pouches galore? Sort of. Although the designers didn’t completely “Leifeld” the heck out of Cable’s suit, you can still tell there are some nods to his comic book garb. Oh, and by the way, if you didn’t notice it yet, he also has a teddy bear attached to his belt. Wait, that’s not in the comics. But the teddy bear could point to a storyline that was definitely featured on Marvel’s panels.

The stuffed toy could belong to Hope Summers — Cable’s adopted daughter. Born Hope Spalding, she was the first new mutant since the Decimation — an event where Scarlet Witch took away all mutant abilities. That day has also been known as “M-Day” in the Marvel universe. Cable rescued Hope when she was still an infant and raised her as his own — teaching her how to fight and survive.

Because Cable still has this toy, could it mean he’s looking for his adopted daughter? Maybe that’s the catalyst that brings Cable and the Merc with a Mouth together. Whatever the story details are, we can’t deny that Josh Brolin is seriously owning this role.
