Wonder Woman soars past $400 million domestically
She’s done it! Wonder Woman soars past the $400 million mark at the domestic box office, proving that she’s a force to be reckoned with.
It’s official – Wonder Woman has officially hit the $400 million mark, making the first female-driven superhero film the first film to cross the milestone at the 2017 domestic box office.
Wonder Woman dominated the summer box office for weeks, holding on in the Top 5 despite new releases that could have pushed the film out but couldn’t manage to budge the film from its perch. Eventually the film slipped into the Top 10, and even now, eleven weeks after its June 2 premiere, Wonder Woman is still in the Top 15.
Box office analysts suspected that Wonder Woman would finish the August 4 weekend at just a smidge below $400 million, which proved true; Wonder Woman ended the weekend at $399.5 million. It wasn’t until August 8 that the Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot movie crossed the $400 million benchmark, further cementing its place in the history books.
Days after reaching $400 million, it was announced that Wonder Woman will be flying into homes on digital on August 29 and on Blu-Ray on September 19. With the movie still showing in over a thousand theaters across the country (and we’re not even talking about the worldwide box office) Wonder Woman will continue to bring in money to Warner Bros, which should only serve to speed up future female superhero movies like Gotham Sirens and Batgirl.
