Funko Marvel Collector Corps: August 2017 “First Appearance Avengers” unboxing
By Steve Lam
Final Round-Up
Funko takes a rest from all the Marvel Cinematic Universe offerings and gives us a small history lesson with its “First Appearance Avengers” box. Though it doesn’t have a comic book this month, I’m very happy to get two Pop!s, which is what all collectors are aiming for anyway. The Vision and Iron Man Pop!s are definitely eye-catching. I’m happy to see Funko giving these classics some attention!
Still not convinced that this is a great box? Due to the items being exclusive and unique to this offering, we’re going to do a theoretical breakdown in price using comparable items found on Ebay:
- “‘First Appearance Avengers” Patch: $4.00–$7.00
- “First Appearance Avengers” Pin: $4.00–$5.00
- “The Incredible Hulk #1″ T-Shirt: $15.00–$25.00
- “Vision (Avengers #57)” Exclusive Pop! Figure: $17.00–$28.00
- “Iron Man (Tales of Suspense #39) Exclusive Pop! Figure: $17.00–$30.00
Using the lower end of the pricing range, all items add up to be $57.00. With two Pop! figures this month, I think it’s definitely worth every penny. The paint job and attention to detail really captures the classic look of both characters. The “Incredible Hulk” t-shirt is also one of the best Funko has offered — it’s colorful and is a real standout!

I like Funko’s focus on past eras of comics. As I mentioned before, since these themes are such a hit, they should consider creating a “comics” line for past incarnations of all these characters. The history is too rich and one box every two months is definitely not enough. For a collector like me, I love looking towards the future (how these properties will be translated to the silver screen) as much as reminiscing about the past.
