Reviewing the latest episode of the animated series, Marvel’s Spider-Man.

Let’s start off with a small non-spoiler review of the animated series, Marvel’s Spider-Man. Peter Parker continues to grow as Spider-Man and as a person in this episode. The episode, named “Party Animals” seemed appropriately titled as we ended up seeing two villains with animal-like forms.

Harry ends up making a big decision after getting some great news. Peter and Gwen seem to end up with a better friendship. Miles knows a lot about rhinos. This was another good episode for the series and, out of five stars, I would give it four.

Spoiler review

The episode starts off with Spidey facing off against the Spider Slayer. As with the theme of this series, the conclusion of the battle includes Peter using his brain to calculate how to finish the slayer off.

Harry calls Peter while he’s fighting to share some news, but Peter, obviously busy, opts to call him back.

When the battle is over, Peter rushes back to school to find out Harry has been cleared of charges. This calls for a celebration. While thinking of a celebration, Peter makes it clear he doesn’t want it to be a dance, but that’s exactly what it ends up being.

Peter is getting ready for the dance. Peter closes a closet, but, just before that, we see a score card for Spider-Man. On there, he has two columns: Wins and Losses. He had 3 wins and 5 losses. Perhaps I’ll post an article looking into what those wins and losses were.

So, boy, this show is really good. Um, Norman Osborn is talking to his son, Harry. While Harry is welcomed back into Horizon High, Norman would prefer if Harry stayed in the school he created to protect his son: Oz Academy. There is back and forth and, ultimately, Harry says he wants to make a name for himself.

Norman counters with the idea that, no matter what, he’s going to be an Osborn. He’s insinuating that the family legacy is all Harry will be known for, so he might as well embrace it. What a great scene. Cliché, but still really good.

Anyway, at the dance, Harry says he’s not going to return to Horizon High. Instead, he’ll stay at the Oz Academy. This shocks the crowd, and then the Rhino breaks into the room, causing panic. After Spidey takes care of the Rhino, he, Gwen, and Harry work on trying to reverse the transformation. Gwen stumbles upon her uncle, Raymond Warren as a potential suspect behind it all.

Gwen leaves to confront her uncle and Spidey follows. Just as he catches up to her, they run into the Jackal. While Spider-Man fights him, Gwen ends up in her uncle’s lab. She sees video of him turning into the Jackal. As Spider-Man is cornered by Jackal, Gwen injects the beast with a serum that reverses the transformation.

All in all, it was yet another good episode. I loved how they dropped that score card bit in there. Also, I wonder when Gwen and Miles get more focus, since we know their Spider-Man counterparts are part of the series.
