Avengers: Infinity War theory — Who’s in the Hulk-Buster?
By Brendan Day
In the Avengers: Infinity War trailer, the Hulk-Buster was seen. Who could the person inside the suit be?
On Wednesday, the internet was blessed with a brand new trailer for the most anticipated superhero movie of all time, Avengers: Infinity War. While watching the trailer on repeat, I’ve spent the past few days speculating about the plot and what will happen in this movie. There are theories out there, with one that can surround something seen for just seconds in the trailer
At the 1:29 mark, we see the Hulk-Buster suit. It was previously used by Iron Man, earlier in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, there’s reason to believe this was not him in the trailer.
We all know that Tony Stark is Iron Man and has access to multiple different-looking suits, including the giant Hulk-Buster. He used this in Avengers: Age of Ultron to fight against a brainwashed Hulk.
In this new trailer, we see the suit re-appear in what looks like Wakanda. Since Stark is seen in New York City and a red looking wasteland (still New York City?), I don’t believe he’s operating that suit — maybe not even remotely (like he did in Iron Man 3). He’s probably busier taking on Thanos, head-on, with presumably Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, and the Guardians of the Galaxy.
So, who’s in the suit? It must be… Bruce Banner.
First, we know Banner ends up in Wakanda, given he’s seen as Hulk, fighting in the huge battle scene, as well as smiling at Black Widow in human form. This shot also included the arm of the Hulk-Buster on the side, as if Banner is working on it.

Second, we see Banner in New York City as well. So he must have traveled from Manhattan to Wakanda, either by portal or stealing one of Tony’s suits, a.k.a. the Hulk-Buster.
Finally, although this trailer looks really dark and gritty, it would be a surprise if we didn’t see any humor in the movie. The reveal of tiny Banner operating a machine that was designed to restrain him would be very funny. Seeing that iconic, close-up shot of Robert Downey Jr. in the suit with his tech and screens but with Mark Ruffalo instead. Maybe Banner will complain how he can’t see well as a comic relief. Perhaps Banner is using the suit as a substitute because he is afraid to transform into the Hulk, even though we see Hulk in the last shot.

At this time, who knows? Maybe it isn’t Banner in the suit, it’s Thor with his two eyes back.
