3. The Resistance will fall

After the sad news of Carrie Fisher’s death last year, many fans worried her scenes in Star Wars: The Last Jedi would be cut. Fortunately, she is set to appear in a majority of scenes in the film. That said, it’s uncertain what her character’s fate in the continuing Star Wars saga will be. The Last Jedi might be General Leia’s last appearance in the Star Wars universe.

The trailers make it seem like Kylo Ren will be the one delivering the final blow to his mother as he did his father, but while I think Leia will most likely survive, the Resistance will crumble in the process. I don’t think Lucasfilm would want to kill Fisher’s character in the movies, opting better for an in-movie tribute akin to Paul Walker’s in Furious 7. This would certainly keep Fisher’s legacy alive within the wide Star Wars mythos.

As for the Resistance, it looks like they’ll be taking a massive loss. Not only do I think we’ll see The First Order do what the Empire never could, beat a rebellion, but they’ll destabilize the galaxy in ways only a group of powerful Force users could fix. Which leads to my next prediction.
