Black Panther: Kendrick Lamar is writing an original song for the film

A major musician hinted at his involvement with the Black Panther soundtrack.
From the moment the first trailer dropped, it was clear that music is going to be an integral part of Marvel’s Black Panther. The trailers and TV spots released so far have featured artists like Run the Jewels and Vince Staples. Despite their use in the film’s promotional material, these tunes likely won’t appear on the actual soundtrack. However, it appears that a certain rapper may actually be writing a song for the film.
Kendrick Lamar revealed that he is writing and performing an original song for Black Panther. The reveal came in the form of a quick shot in the middle of the music video for his song, “Love.” This isn’t the first time Lamar’s music has been connected to the movie. His hit single, “DNA” was featured in the footage shown at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.

Lamar appears to be a perfect match for the film. Director Ryan Coogler and star Chadwick Boseman are fans of his, which led to the use of “DNA” in the footage. It’s not often that MCU films feature original songs, but, some do include pre-existing ones. Iron Man 3 used Capital Cities’ “One Minute More,” while Guardians of the Galaxy utilized a plethora of classic tracks.
Many superhero films have included songs by notable artists. Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man featured “Hero” from Chad Kroeger and Josey Scott. And, who could forget Seal’s “Kiss from a Rose,” which was added to (and made famous by) Batman Forever.

An original song produced by Lamar would be a great way to signify the first Marvel film headlined by an African-American lead. Pairing this with a score from frequent Ryan Coogler collaborator, Ludwig Goransson should be sweet music to our ears.
