1. More character driven Task Force X

One of the major problems in the first film was that fans weren’t able to connect with the characters, to no fault of the cast. Despite the efforts to force comedy and an emotional story, like with Diablo and they sense of “family”, it all felt forced. Many of the characters suffered from a crowded screen and lack of development like Jai Courtney’s hilarious Captain Boomerang. Will Smith’s Deadshot was the only character that was done really well while Margot Robbie spun gold from straw with her character. Others like Diable, Killer Croc, Katana, Griggs, and even Amanda Waller fell flat because there was nothing beyond their few lines that felt meaningful.

With that said, based on the two men working on Suicide Squad 2 and it promises to put more focus on the characters an element that made Man of Steel successful and Wonder Woman to a greater extent. Together,  O’Connor and De Luca have allowed their characters to push the plot of the stories. For O’Connor it’s Warrior and The Accountant which allowed it’s stars to the tell the story opposed to the plot guiding the characters like the original Suicide Squad. In Captain Phillips, De Luca worked with director Paul Greengrass and turned what could be considered a plot-driven story to a character driven one. As part of the Suicide Squad 2 team, De Luca will undoubtedly do the same. The way the story sets up and the cast members set to appear, it shouldn’t be that difficult.

The news surrounding Suicide Squad 2  is the type of buzz the DCEU needs. As of now, things are looking up but it remains to be seen just how impactful these new changes will have on upcoming films. Suicide Quad 2 is set to begin filming in the fall of 2018 and said to feature a plot that involves Task Force X assigned to track down a weapon of mass destruction. That weapon is said to be Black Adam, played by Dwayne Johnson in his DCEU debut.
