2. Birds of Prey origin has nothing to do with Harley Quinn

There are a number of reasons as to why Margot Robbie may have opted to produce a Birds of Prey film, but Harley’s involvement wasn’t one of them. As a matter of fact the entire early stages of Birds of Prey didn’t even have a mention of Harley Quinn as it strictly revolved around Oracle, Black Canary, and Huntress. Nothing about the origins of Birds of Prey remotely points to having Harley Quinn and that’s because she’s essentially a villain.

The Birds of Prey’s story starts after Joker shoots and rapes Barbara Gordon leaving her paralyzed. Without any direction she eventually found out that she was useful as the woman in the seat, as Oracle.  Her superior intellect and hacking ability made her an asset, so she opted to start her own team. Together, along with Black Canary the two set out on missions. When Black Canary was in trouble, it forced Oracle to call in the Huntress and Birds of Prey was formed. Of course, there could always be a re-imagining of the groups origin to make Harley fit. And if the new head of DC’s Extended Universe opts to allow such a film to be made it’ll be a bit disheartening to the fans of Batgirl as she’ll likely be overshadowed by Harley Quinn. There’s no reason for Harley Quinn to be part of Birds of Prey since she has her own squad.
