3 reasons Superman appearing in Shazam! makes so much sense

1. Superman doesn’t have to take away Shazam’s thunder

While having Superman in the same film as Shazam feels like it could have the same negative impact as Wonder Woman did in BvS, it won’t. For starters, if you’ve followed DC’s animated films there’s a blueprint that allows Sandberg and company to insert Clark Kent before even giving fans Superman. In the 2010 animated film Superman/Shazam: The Return of Black Adam fans got to see Clark Kent interact with Billy Batson after the former is knocked out by a mugger. Afterwards, Billy sits down with Clark and opens up about the consequences of being good. The scene is set as part of Billy’s origin story as it depicts him as a foster child struggling to find his way.  If introduced in a short stint that allows Clark and Superman to shine in an impactful but minute way it can work wonders for the film.

Next: Shazam! to start filming

There can be a massive payoff and the MCU, in Spider-Man: Homecoming we got a heavy dose of Ironman/Tony Stark, but it never felt like it was overwhelming. Sandberg and the DCEU could and should look to employ some of the same strategies Disney/Marvel used, after all, this is a copycat industry and it’s all about pleasing the fans. Unfortunately we’ll have to wait and see what happens with Shazam! which is set to hit theaters April 5, 2019.
