4. Speedy

There have been two different characters who could claim the name Speedy, but only of them can call themselves Arsenal and Red Arrow, Roy Harper. Roy was to Green Arrow was Robin was to Batman and has become one of the greatest marksmen in DC. Roy was raised by Brave Bow, a skilled marksman who taught him how to use a bow and arrow. After losing a contest to Green Arrow, Roy earned the respect of the hero, and when Brave Bow died he would help raise the now teenage Roy.

Together, Green Arrow and Roy, now known as Speedy would use their skills to defend the world. They even joined a group called the Seven Soldiers of Victories. Roy would eventually branch off on his own and join the Teen Titans. Although he wasn’t a huge feature on the animated series, he did play a pretty major role in Young Justice.

In Young Justice, he goes by the name of Arsenal and has a storyline that’ll break your heart. Colton Hayes plays a fantastic version of the hero from time to time of CW’s Arrow, however, another one of Green Arrow’s sidekicks who goes by Speedy.

On Arrow, Oliver Queen’s sister, Thea Dearden Queen (Willa Holland) where’s the crimson hood and wields the bow. She was given the hood by her boyfriend Roy, but she already had the nickname Speedy before she became an ass-kicking hero. Thea isn’t in the mainstream comics, instead, she’s a appears to be a loose depiction of Green Arrow’s sidekick Mia Dearden. Mia was a prostitute who was saved by Green Arrow, after guessing that he was Oliver, he takes her under his wing. She would eventually train as his pupil and earn the title of Speedy. When it was revealed that she had HIV Oliver asked her to quit.

Fortunately, with the help of Connor (Oliver’s son) she worked up the courage to confront her mentor and prove to him that she deserves to be Speedy, Oliver conceded. Later on, she, like her predecessor would join the Teen Titans thus ending her career as a sidekick. Thea isn’t the first rendition of the character, Mia was featured on Smallville and played by actress Elise Gatien. With so many depictions and the longevity of the character, this is why Speedy makes the list at No. 4.
