4. Bucky Barnes

This is the easiest connection to make. In the comics, after the events of Civil War, it would be the formerly brainwashed Winter Soldier who would wield the Captain’s shield. Bucky would be asked by Iron Man to continue Caps legacy at the request of a letter Rogers sent to Tony before his death.

Although reluctant, Bucky did accept and would be the new Captain American until Steve’s resurrection. Admittedly, Bucky didn’t exactly have his comic book origin story told in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe. In the comics, Bucky was the poster child to get kids to join a special government program. They placed him as the sidekick to Captain America and thus the duo was born. Bucky would “die” in the 1940s and wouldn’t be seen or heard from again (outside of flashbacks) until 2005, Captain America #1 as the Winter Soldier.

In MCU, Bucky was the playboy, bad ass, best friend to a pint-sized Steve Rogers who wanted nothing more than to keep his boy safe in Captain America: The First Avenger. Naturally, Rogers didn’t listen and he would go on to become Captain America.

Although Bucky did team with Cap, it wasn’t in the cliche sidekick role. Where the comics and MCU line was the disappearance of Bucky. He was pressured dead in Captain America: The First Avenger which took place during WWII and wouldn’t appear again until Captain America: Winter Soldier where Bucky and Rogers comes fave to face in 2014. There are a lot of things in the MCU that differ from the comics, but the idea of Bucky becoming Captain America still remains. Sebastian Stan, who plays Bucky in the MCU has proven to be a scene thief.

There’s a lot to like about Stan and what he could potentially bring to the screen as Captain America. Like in the comics, he’ll be carrying the shield with the weight of redemption, looking to make up for the terrible things he’s done. That alone is a story worth exploring and something fans can get behind. Thanks to the people of Wakanda, Shuri to be exact, Bucky is cured of the Soviet’s brainwashing and ready to become a full-time good guy. So why not have him take up the mantle of Captain America like in the comics? Unless they have other plans for the White Wolf…
