Stan Lee’s cameos in Marvel movies began long before the MCU was even planned. It was a credit to one of the most high-profile comic creators to ever live. The MCU allows Lee to continue this tradition, and it has become a past-time to look for him by most audiences. Some roles are just goofs, while others hint at to deeper truths in the Marvel Universe (like when he was hanging out with the Watchers in GOTG 2).

Lee is becoming advanced in age, however, so it’s hard to say how many more cameos he has in him. I’m not sure how they might replace him, or even if anyone will try. Perhaps they will use technology to include him in Marvel movies until the Earth stops turning.

Love him or hate him, Lee is one of the most influential members of the comic book industry alive today. Marvel grew to be one of the top two comic book labels in history, directly because of Lee’s direction. That said, I think most people would agree that there is something special about seeing a creator get to interact with the worlds he helped create on the silver screen.
