Review: Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man (2017) #306

Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man issue 306 started what looks to be the final arc involving the Vedomi. Read on, but beware, spoilers are ahead.

Since 2017, many names of Spider-Man movies and comics have had the name “home” incorporated into them (funny isn’t it?). There’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, the upcoming Spider-Man: Far From Home, and this story arc, “Coming Home.” The threat of the Vedomi has been going on since issue #300, and finally it seems like this story is getting close to its hopefully climatic conclusion. This issue seemed like a setup for a major battle (but I may be wrong) based on its ending.

More from Spider-Man

Back to the future (finally)

At the start of the issue, Spidey and his team, J. Jonah Jameson and Teresa Parker, finally arrive back in the present day. Now their new objective is to defeat the Tinkerer and his army of Vedomi. In order to do this, Spider-Man uses the capsule given to him to stop the Vedomi on himself, even though it has not been tested yet. (Talk about a brave hero.) This grants him the ability to see al of his memories at once, some long forgotten; he also now has all of the information and knowledge in his brain on how to stop the Vedomi. This issue ends with yet another cliffhanger: Peter goes to the Vedomi ship to destroy the core and make the ultimate sacrifice, but the Tinkerer is there waiting for him in an advanced robo-suit.

A slow-paced setup

Overall, I didn’t enjoy this issue as much as the previous ones. It seemed very slow, but as a comic that will probably set up a huge, climatic boss battle, everything has to be set in place. But, that does make a sort of slow comic. On the other hand, it wasn’t terrible. This issue did what it was supposed to well. It set up an epic-looking boss battle between Spidey, the Tinkerer and the Vedomi.

Here’s to hoping that the next issue will be more fast-paced. You can pick up this issue at your local comic book shop.
