Birds of Prey: 10 dual threat actresses we’d like to see play Black Canary

5. Gugu Mbatha-Raw

There’s arguably no actress on the list as talented as Gugu Mbatha-Raw. The 35-year old actress would kill it as Black Canary. As Belle, she was was amazing in the 2013 British film where played a bi-racial child born to a slave mother and a British Navy officer.

Mbatha-Raw’s performance was powerful a well educated liberated woman. She went on to star as a singer in Beyond the Lights where she once again received critical praise for her role as Noni Jean. Mbatha-Raw also received critical praise in Black Mirror (2016), Concussion, and Miss Sloane which starred Jessica Chastain. The rave reviews that Mbatha-Raw continues to receive is a testament to her greatness. Imagine what she’d bring to the DCEU as Black Canary.  

4. Vanessa Hudgens  

Vanessa Hudgens has gone from Disney star to indie circuit. Early on she was known for her role in the Disney Channel’s, High School Musical. From there, she went on to star in movies such as films Bandslam, Beastly, Sucker Punch, and Journey 2: The Mysterious Island.

However, it wasn’t until Gimmie Shelter where she was allowed to display the depth of her acting ability. Hudgens also played in a couple of Broadway musicals continuing to show that she’s a triple threat. Hudgens as a couple of upcoming projects, Second Act and a comic inspired, Polar. Considering her acting and singing talent — there’s no reason to believe she wouldn’t make a great Black Canary.
