Mad Love Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn

DC has some amazing source material to get fans excited about Joker and Harley. The Joker and Harley Quinn screenwriters didn’t give many details about the script, but Mad Love should serve as inspiration. The story does include Batman, but for the movie, we don’t need him. In fact, Mad Love is the beginning of Harley’s emancipation from the Joker. In the critically acclaimed DC comics arc, Harley is shoved aside because of Joker’s ego. After capturing Batman, Joker pushes Harley out a window leaving her wounded, upset that she tried to kill Batman without him. She gets arrested and while in Arkham, she denounces their relationship. Harley ultimately ends up back with Joker, but this film doesn’t need to go that far.

Hopefully, the writers plan on doing a little more than romanticize Joker and Harley’s toxic relationship. Instead, they can incorporate the relationship between Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn. Unfortunately, there’s nothing that connects Poison Ivy to a movie titled Joker and Harley Quinn — and there should be. In fact, the classic Batman: The Animated Series episode, “Harley and Ivy” should come into play. Part of Harley’s growth is the guidance of Poison Ivy, who understands what true independence is.

Additionally, Ivy serves as a mentor for Harley, helping her discover who she is and what she’s capable of without Joker. Ivy keeps it real with Harley and makes her realize the abuse she’s suffering from isn’t okay. This ultimately pits her against Joker with Harley and Ivy teaming up to thwart Joker’s plans. Including Ivy also connects to another film we want to see.
