3. Captain America: The Winter Soldier

DVD Sales – $31.6 million/1.8 million units
Blu-ray Sales – $38.8 million/2 million units
Total Sales – $70 million/3.9 million units

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is still one of the most beloved Phase Two entries! Not only that, but still a highly praised film within the entirety of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There is no other film like this, with its super spy, political thriller vibe. This is also strange, because sales wise it plays second fiddle to Thor: The Dark World. Captain America: The Winter Soldier also manages to beat out titles like X-Men: Days of Future Past and The Amazing Spider-Man 2. It managed to be the #9 best-selling Blu-ray and the #13 best-selling movie of 2014.

There are some unfortunate qualms, as the MCU title held to #1 for only one week in sales. Godzilla came along and made short work of it. Additionally, by this point, DVD sales are dropping everywhere, with a push towards digital. The Phase Two title sells 7% less units than its original. Plus, with prices dropping, the sequel only snags only 60% of The First Avenger‘s revenue. Now, these are bad things, need I remind you. It’s just surprising that one of the most praised MCU films has rather standard numbers.
