Jared Leto’s Joker not expected to be returning anytime soon

Several newly cancelled projects could spell the end of Jared Leto’s Joker in the DCEU.

According to Forbes now, it seems that Jared Leto’s Joker solo movie is out. On top of this, the “Mad Love” story starring both Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn and Jared Leto’s Joker is off now as well. Is this the end, and if so, why?

Jared Leto’s The Joker Film

This is the first film that the DCEU is canning apparently. We have no real reason for this at all at the moment. It is possible that Warner Bros. is pleased with what they have seen of Joaquin Phoenix as The Joker in that odd, “Elseworlds” tale of a film. It may be possible they want to use that as inspiration for further Joker films. They may feel so pleased with it that maybe they want a sequel, ergo, they cancel Jared Leto’s Joker in favor of a sequel. Again, this idea is simply that, an idea, an assumption. Jared Leto was meant to have a role as executive producer on his film, as well. Maybe he became too busy with other future projects to materialize his own Joker film.

Jared Leto’s Joker and No “Mad Love”

There was the idea floating around of a movie inspired by the classic “Mad Love” story. Essentially, “Mad Love” is the origin of Harley Quinn and her relationship with The Joker. We already have Birds of Prey and perhaps some Gotham City Sirens, even a Birds of Prey vs. Gotham City Sirens film as well. Is there any room for Jared Leto’s Joker among this possible Harley Quinn trilogy? Besides this one possibility, one cannot fathom any other reason.

More from Movies

Who knows, maybe it is for the best that “Mad Love” doesn’t happen. More and more, since The New 52, Harley Quinn has gradually been pulled away more from The Joker. You also have the Batman and Harley Quinn direct-to-DVD release. We are entering this whole detachment from Harley Quinn’s history and relationship with The Joker. Of course, no one is denying it or erasing it from history. Yet, why continue to retreat to it? By retreating to it, we may forever keep the two together. We need to let the character of Harley Quinn to evolve. If this means cancelling a film with Jared Leto’s Joker, so be it.

Aquaman writer David Leslie Johnson-McGoldric returns. dark. Next

Jared Leto’s Joker was hardly ever popular to begin with. Although one cannot help but wonder if he will appear in other films. Will we see him in the sequel to Suicide Squad and these Harley Quinn spin-offs? If Jared Leto’s Joker does not reappear, with the cut of Suicide Squad we got, he certainly got the short end of the stick.
