We’re taking a look at the most memorable quotes from the heroes and villains of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been chugging along for over 10 years now and given us 20 films and dozens of heroes and villains. With this many films and the large egos of the heroes and villains who populate them, there are many good lines uttered! Good dialogue and quotes in a film can help to make a motion picture memorable, as such lines get stuck in our heads and are often then repeated, so sit back and relax as we present you with the Top 10 MCU character quotes.

Iron Man: Tony Stark

Tony Stark was always the showmen, and this was never more apparent than when showcasing his newest weapon, The Jericho, to sell on the open market. This quote, viewed now, really shows how far Tony has come from being just a greedy billionaire to a hero fighting for all of humanity:

"“They say the best weapon is one you never have to fire. I prefer the weapon you only need to fire once. That’s how dad did it, that’s how America does it, and it’s worked out pretty well so far.”"

The Avengers: Steve Rogers

The following quote was used to showcase the disillusionment Steve felt when he found out SHIELD had been stockpiling HYDRA weapons and technology:

"“When I went under, the world was at war. I wake up, they say we won. They didn’t say what we lost.”"

The Avengers: Loki

This scene’s quote finds Loki drunk on power, intimidating a crowd of humans and commanding worship and servitude from them. This comes to an end when an elderly man (strongly implied to be a Holocaust survivor) refuses, and as Loki prepares to execute him, he is saved by Steve Rogers and Iron Man.

"“Is not this simpler? Is this not your natural state? It’s the unspoken truth of humanity that you crave subjugation. The bright lure of freedom diminishes your life’s joy in a mad scramble for power. For identity. You were made to be ruled. In the end, you will always kneel.”"

Guardians of the Galaxy: Ronan the Accuser

A badass moment finds Ronan consuming the power of an infinity stone, after he has melded it with his hammer. Ronan betrays Thanos, his former master, and states he will no longer serve him and in fact, intends to kill him. It is a showdown that all fanboys were sad never occurred:

"“YOU CALL ME “BOY”?! I will unfurl one thousand years of Kree justice on Xander AND BURN IT TO ITS CORE!! Then, Thanos, I’m coming for you!”"

Avengers Infinity War: Thanos

This quote occurs during an epic duel that sees Tony battling the Mad Titan himself in a battle to the death. It’s a high-stakes and emotional fight, since we all know Tony can’t possibly win on his own. Once Thanos has beaten Tony almost to death, he then shows a surprisingly sane side, as he says the following quote:

"“Stark… you have my respect. When I’m done, half of humanity will still exist. I hope they remember you.”"

Black Panther: Erik Killmonger

Erik Killmonger is viewed as one of the best villains in the MCU, and this scene showcased his presence. Dragging in the body of Wakanda’s most feared enemy and then talking smack to the King, before challenging him to a duel was a statement. This scene shows why Erik is a force to be reckoned with:

"“I’m standing in your house, serving justice to a man who stole your vibranium and murdered your people. Justice your king couldn’t deliver.”"

Iron Man 3: The Mandarin

Sadly, the Mandarin is one disappointing villain. In the Iron Man 3 trailer, we were shown a true, fearsome bad guy, ne who had seen gods, aliens and monsters and simply did not care, and in fact, was going to kill some of them to prove heroes did not exist. One of his amazing lines from the trailer is the following:

"“I’m gonna offer a choice: do you want an empty life or a meaningful death?”"

Avengers: Age of Ultron: Ultron

Ultron is one villain who is not fondly remembered. However, the following quote shows that Ultron had a philosopher in him, as he mused on the fall of the Avengers and his rule of earth:

"“Do you see the beauty of it? The inevitability? You rise, only to fall. You, Avengers, you are my meteor. My swift and terrible sword and the Earth will crack with the weight of your failure. Purge me from your computers; turn my own flesh against me. It means nothing! When the dust settles, the only thing living in this world… will be metal!”"

Doctor Strange: Stephen Strange

Doctor Strange is not a hero one thinks of when they think of the most powerful Avengers. However, when the earth was being consumed by the interdimensional villain Dormammu, Strange showed that his power was not in fighting but in his brilliant mind, as he defeats the god using only his mind and trickery:

"“Dormammu, I’ve come to bargain.”"

Thor: Thor of Asgard

This tragic quote showcases the heart that beats within Thor and how he cares for people, even if this is sometimes hidden by his giant ego. In this scene, Thor offers to sacrifice himself to save the innocents Loki was trying to kill.

"“Brother, whatever I have done to wrong you, whatever I have done to lead you to do this, I am truly sorry. But these people are innocent, taking their lives will gain you nothing. So take mine, and end this.”"
