The Russo brothers have provided a definitive answer regarding the presence of Fox characters in Avengers: Endgame.

When it comes to Avengers: Endgame, fans still have a number of burning questions. One of the biggest has been whether the film will include cameos from the newly acquired Fox characters like the X-Men or Fantastic Four. Well, Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo have an answer that’s sure to be disappointing for some.

The two confirmed to Comicbook.com that the film will not include any of the Fox characters. With the Disney/Fox deal just closing a few weeks ago, having any of them appear would have been impossible, which Joe Russo states as the reason:

"“That deal didn’t actually officially close until a week and a half ago. It would not have been logistically possible.”"

Still, the directors did express a bit of hope, with Anthony Russo saying, “Well get there.”,  and Joe Russo finishing with, “We’ll get to ‘Secret Wars.'”

The news may be a letdown for some fans, but it’s honestly not too surprising. The deal between Disney and Fox had been in the works during production on Avengers: Endgame. However, the deal had to have been finalized for the directors to actually take advantage of any of the new properties. And with the deal’s completion date not in their favor, it wasn’t a shock that they wouldn’t be able to include any cameos or Easter eggs.

Some may argue that the Russos are trying to mislead fans, and they’re actually prepping them for a surprise in the movie. But with so much red tape and so little time before the film’s release, it’s very unlikely that something will be added in. Additionally, the two just confirmed that the film has officially been completed.

But even without the likes of Wolverine or Doctor Doom showing up, Avengers: Endgame is sure to have plenty of surprises in store. As the end of this era of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Russos likely have some big things planned. And fans will undoubtedly continue to speculate until the film hits theaters on April 26.
