Previously, in Naomi No. 3, Naomi had a sit-down with the mechanic in town named Dee. Naomi thought he was the key to finding out who she is. Instead, we get a backstory of who he was before he came into town. Dee is a Thanagarian who wanted to live a peaceful life with his lady. Instead, she was killed before they could escape their life of war. While Dee is telling the story, Naomi’s parents come in. Her mother is furious, yelling at Dee and breaking things. They leave, and Naomi’s father decides it’s time to tell her the truth. It ends with him revealing that he himself isn’t from Earth either.

Naomi begins the story reacting like you’d assume she would — with shock. She had no idea her parents were holding a secret this big, let alone that her father wasn’t from Earth. Naomi asks to sit in her dad’s ship, and he begins to tell her his past and why he came to Earth in the first place.

It was sweet seeing how Naomi reacted to this news. It was also very realistic. Naomi was in awe at first. She touched his ship and said it felt weird. But after the shock wore off, she looked at her dad and yelled, “WHAT THE HELL, DAD?!” A reaction we’d all have after the allure of everything wore off. Her dad said he wanted to tell her, but couldn’t figure out the right time to. It makes sense considering this was a major moment in both of their lives. But it was time to tell her what was really going on.

Naomi’s father starts his story similar to Dee’s. With War. He was  in a solider just like Dee and was actually fighting the Thanagarians. Naomi’s dad was sent to Earth to find the Thanagarian terrorist and report back with any information he had. While he was talking to Dee, he saw Naomi’s mother. She had just sold her first painting, and it was love at first sight. It didn’t take long for him to tell her he was an alien (Naomi wasn’t happy that he took so long but told her mom immediately). Soon, issues began to arise between them since they couldn’t have kids. Luckily, fate would change that.

Her father was woken up when one of this beacons went off. He tracked the signal to a field. Dee was already there holding his beacon. He yelled to him that his never went off before. Out of nowhere, a portal opens in the sky. Warriors pop out attacking a woman holding a baby. Dee and Naomi’s father protected the woman and the baby, before killing them. When the battle was over, the woman was dead, and the baby was alive. Dee said he couldn’t care for a child with his intimacy issues. Naomi was taken in by her parents solving their problem of wanting to raise a child. Naomi is then asked where the the blanket she was wrapped in is. She takes it and finds a box. No one had known what it was. As she touchs it, a symbol appears. It’s the White Lantern symbol!

More from Comics

Just like the previous issues, more questions were answered, and we’re left with a cliffhanger. Four issues in and we know a lot and nothing at all. Every ending will leave readers wanting more. Brian Michael Bendis and David F Walker have continued to deliver a phenomenal story, giving us just enough to be satisfied for the month while anticipating the next release. Jamal Campbell’s art is beautiful. It highlights everything the writers are telling. The best part is how he makes it easy to distinguish from the characters. When the aliens came through the portal, you immediately knew who the villains were and who they were chasing. Also, the fight scene didn’t look clunky. It was perfect.

  • At some point, it would be nice to know Naomi’s father’s name. Just a thought.
  • The mission to report back on Dee was abandoned after Naomi’s dad realized they were on similar paths. How long until this comes back to bite them?
  • What kind of deal did her parents have with Dee? Why was Jennifer (Naomi’s mother) able to get so violent without repercussions?
  • Lastly, THE WHITE LANTERN SYMBOL IN NAOMI’S EYES?! Sweet Christmas, this series keeps getting better. Is she a White Lantern conduit or is this something from her biological mother?
