Chris Hemsworth open to more Thor movies after Avengers: Endgame
Chris Hemsworth says making Thor: Ragnarok was an enjoyable process because he was able to break the rules, and that he would be willing to play the role yet again in the future if the opportunity arises.
Chris Hemsworth is set to reprise his role of Thor, Asgardian God of Thunder, for the seventh time this weekend in Avengers: Endgame, but he’s not ready to leave the character behind just yet.
As he told British TV show This Morning (via MSN.com):
"“I’d play this character for as long as anyone would let me. I’ve loved it so much. But the combination of this many characters in this Phase Three, as Marvel calls it, you’ll never have this interaction with this many people again. Who knows what the future holds and whether they do prequels and sequels or whatever, I’d be open to anything. But right now, this is where we finish up.”"
As Hemsworth notes, Phase Four will likely have a lot of sequels for newer characters like Dr Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), in addition to the Black Widow solo movie starring Scarlett Johannson and obscure projects like The Eternals,
But, given that Disney Plus will have original MCU content, it’s not unfathomable that Thor could show up here or there, especially considering that one of the shows will focus on his brother Loki, the fan-favorite played by Tom Hiddleston.
Depending on what happens in Avengers: Endgame, Thor could be one of the only original Avengers left standing, as it seems likely that Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr) and Steve Rogers/Captain America (Chris Evans) will be written out of the franchise due to their contracts expiring.
Talking to Yahoo! Movies UK (also via MSN.com), Hemsworth stated that one of the aspects he most enjoyed about working with director Taika Waititi on Thor: Ragnarok was the creative freedom to “break all the rules” in rolling the dice to reinvent the character.
Many fans believe that Ragnarok is the best installment of the Thor trilogy for its offbeat script, Jeff Goldblum’s portrayal of the Grandmaster and Cate Blanchett’s role as Hela, half-sister of Thor and Loki.
Avengers: Endgame comes to theaters on Friday, April 26.
