Avengers: Endgame earns massive $60 million in Thursday night previews

Avengers: Endgame dominated the box office on Thursday night with a record-breaking total.

It was no secret that Avengers: Endgame was poised for box office success but, so far, it seems to be quickly surpassing expectations. Although the film just released in the U.S. on Thursday, it’s already raked in plenty of money and broken a new record.

Various outlets, including THR, report that Avengers: Endgame earned a total of $60 million in Thursday night previews. In doing so, the film has broken the record for the largest total earned by a film in Thursday previews. The record was previously held by fellow Disney production Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($57M).

Endgame is currently headed for a major opening weekend. Early predictions already indicate that it will finish with $140 million on Friday. At this rate, it could have an opening weekend of $300 million or more, which would be the highest opening gross domestically for any film.

The movie has also made a significant dent at the international box office as well It earned $107.5 million in its China debut on Wednesday, making it the largest single-day opening for a movie in that market, and even that number has grown to $154.5 million since then. It’s also broken opening day records in other markets, such as Hong Kong, Australia, and New Zealand.

It will be tough for the film to unseat Avatar as the highest-grossing film of all time, but it has a few factors working in its favor. Not only is it part of the Avengers series, it’s also the culmination of all 22 films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It also has received critical acclaim, earning a certified fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes with ease.
