What does the new Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer say about the web-slinger’s future in the MCU?
The new trailer for Spider-Man: Far from Home dropped and it looks pretty good. It also showed us a few things. Mysterio is working for Nick Fury (although some still think he’s a villain), MJ knows Peter is Spider-Man, Peter finds out there’s a multiverse, and Parker and Happy are still mourning Tony Stark’s death. The last one may be the most important element.
Tony looked like he was grooming Peter for something big. The custom-made tech suits, the tough love, and the giant hug at the end of Avenger: Endgame are all indications of how he felt about Peter. In the newest preview, Nick Fury asks Peter if he’s going to step up and fill Iron Man’s shoes. Peter even said the world needs the next Iron Man. Could this happen?

First, could Peter Parker actually become the next Tony Stark? It’s not likely. There’s too much on Peter’s plate for him to do any of the things Tony did. He does have all of the genius and creativity, but Peter seemed to prefer staying closer to home. However, he could be the next Iron Man.
The Avengers need someone who can think outside of the box. He’s younger and sees the world different. We saw this in Captain America: Civil War when they defeated Scott Lang and again when Ebony Maw was beat in Avengers: Infinity War. T’Challa doesn’t seem to be the genius he is in the comic books. The role of genius could be filled by Spider-Man. Even if T’Challa is the Avengers resident genius, Peter would definitely help him with research.

At the end of the day, Peter Parker is his own man and should remain that way. By making him the new Tony Stark also isn’t likely. Marvel understands that characters need to be themselves and not follow a trend or be modeled after another character. Regardless of what happens next, we are going to see a lot of Spider-Man in the future. He’s one of the most popular characters in the Marvel Universe (comic or cinematic).
