Spider-Man: Far From Home: Is the MCU in Universe 616?
By Mark Lynch
What if Earth 616 is actually a fabrication in the Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer?
Spider-Man: Far From Home debuted their second trailer and it showed a lot. Among those things was that Mysterio is from an alternate dimension. During a leaked video we find out that Mysterio (whose real name is Quentin Beck) is from Dimension 833. What he says next is weird and is certain to have comic book fans a bit upset. Mysterio tells Peter that his universe is dimension 616. Why is this weird? The Marvel Cinematic Universe isn’t Dimension 616, the Marvel Comics prime universe is.
Wait, alternate realities?
Earth Prime (Earth 616) is the dimension that started Marvel Comics. As time went on, Marvel Comics started a comic book series called What if. This series covered what would happen if classic moments and characters went in different directions. It also showed there was a multiverse in Marvel Comics. An easier explanation of alternate realities was in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Each reality being similar but having major differences. For example, Spider-Woman (Gwen Stacy) being bitten by the spider that gave her powers instead of Peter Parker.
What does this mean for Far From Home?
Mysterio could say that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is Dimension 616 to make himself sound smarter than he is. For all we know, he is the Quentin Beck from the MCU. Nick Fury may know this and is testing Peter Parker (everything in Spider-Man: Far From Home seems like a test for Peter). Even if Mysterio’s from an alternate reality, this won’t be surprising. He’s reality hopped in the comic books (we find this out in Spider-Men 1).

In comic books, Mysterio is an insecure villain. He’s used his special talents to try and become a big time criminal. This usually ends with Spider-Man punching his fishbowl helmet and sending him back to jail. I wrote an article recently describing why Mysterio isn’t what he seems. Saying he’s from the 616 solidified my theory. Why? He’s probably looking for a new start.
Some of his abilities in the trailer appear supernatural and have some of the same shapes that Dr. Strange uses when he performs his magic. These, along with the elemental beings he’s fighting, are probably just his creations. Before Mysterio was a villain, he was a stuntman and special effects director. It would be an easy task for him to create the elemental beings we’ve seen. This way he can save the day and look like a hero. He can then start his new life as a hero or as a criminal by tricking people into thinking he’s a good guy.
All of this is speculation. The leaked footage could be changed before the movie debuts and Mysterio could say that they’re currently in Dimension 19999. All we can do is wait to see what’s next. Stay tuned to Bam Smack Pow for more updates on this and other news from Spider-Man: Far From Home.
