The Booster Gold screenplay is complete but production up in the air

A Booster Gold script is finished, and one of the producers is happy with it, so what’s the hold-up?

Recently, an update on the DCEU’s Booster Gold movie was given. It has been revealed that a screenplay for the time-travelling superhero from the 25th century has been completed by Zack Stentz. Stentz spoke with Revenge of the Fans about the project and gave an honest update on its current status:

"“I do not know what’s going on with it right now, honestly. And I don’t know if the DC people what’s going on with it. Their strategy seems to change depending on how […] most recent movie did. But I can tell you that a script has been turned in that the director and producer, Greg Berlanti, has proclaimed himself to be very happy with. And it’s something that’s ready to go, but DC and Warner Bros. would need to give the green light to it. The ball is in their court.”"

Four months back, it was reported that Booster Gold would have a small role in a proposed standalone Blue Beetle movie, written by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer and produced by Zev Foreman. So far, no director has been announced for that project. It would be logical for whatever form Booster Gold comes in, that it is released before the Jamie Reyes Blue Beetle movie hits the big screen.

More from DCEU

It appears Greg Berlanti, who has been attached to direct and produce Booster Gold, is pleased with what Stentz brought to the table, but the two are currently playing a waiting game. It seems we may have to wait until the next DC movie release, Joker (which takes place outside the main DC Extended Universe) to find out what the studio’s plans will be moving forward.

Stentz, an established journalist and novelist and writer/producer of film and television is best known for writing Marvel properties like 2011’s Thor and X-Men: First Class. In addition to writing for the page and screen, he is also a teacher. To date, the only other DC–related project Stentz has worked on is The CW’s The Flash on which he served as a writer and consulting producer.

Booster Gold falls in line with the direction the DCEU films are currently leaning towards, which is due in no small part to the recent praise and success of Shazam! While Joker and subsequent 2020 films (Birds of Prey and Wonder Woman 1984) are set for release, their results will most likely be the determining factor of what happens to DC Films past the year 2021.
