Square Enix has been working on a Marvel project for a few years and, now, they’ve revealed when fans can get their first look at it.
Fans were elated when Square Enix revealed they would be developing a Marvel video game centered on the Avengers. But since that initial announcement, the Japanese game developer hasn’t given many updates on the project’s status. Luckily, things are about to turn around, as fans can expect a reveal very soon.
Square Enix announced (via social media) that the game previously known as “The Avengers Project” is officially called Marvel’s Avengers. They also confirmed that the game will have a presence at their live E3 2019 showcase. The event is set to take place on June 10:

As mentioned, not much is known about the game at this point. During the initial announcement, the only tidbit that Square Enix would reveal was a brief cinematic. It’s also been teased that players will take control of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Many have speculated that the game will be an action adventure RPG with a large roster of characters. This would make it somewhat similar to the fan favorite Marvel Ultimate Alliance series.
With the launch of PS4’s Spider-Man last year and the return of Ultimate Alliance this year, Marvel has experienced a bit of a resurgence in its video game division. In the past, most film tie-in games like The Amazing Spider-Man series didn’t work out. But original titles like Spider-Man PS4 have led to greater success.
Marvel’s Avengers has the opportunity to capitalize on this revitalization of Marvel’s gaming presence. And if the game is a success, it could lead to a new, viable franchise. Marvel has proven to be one of the most creative brands within the entertainment sphere and pairing them with Square Enix could lead to something special.
