Warner Bros. may be considering a Justice League reboot
Warner Bros. is rumored to be looking into a Justice League reboot.
Ever since Justice League, there have been discussions regarding state of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) and whether or not the franchise should be rebooted. About more than 18 months later, we are currently in a slightly more promising era of the DCEU. Shazam! marked the seventh installment in the franchise with more films like Wonder Woman 1984 and Birds of Prey on the way.
In recent news, We Got This Covered seems to have learned that Warner Bros. is considering moving forward with a reboot of a Justice League movie. James Gunn, who is currently working on a follow-up to Suicide Squad, is under consideration to direct the potential movie based on DC Comics’ flagship superhero team.
Considering Ben Affleck will not reprise his role as the Caped Crusader and both Henry Cavill and Ezra Miller are not currently committed to reprising their roles as Superman and the Flash, it is a reasonable that Warner Bros. and DC Films are moving forward and continuing with their filmmaker–driven approach. This would be less complicated than going with a direct sequel like Wonder Woman 1984, which is a standalone follow-up with no major connections to the rest of the universe.

The team roster for the rumored reboot is said to include: Batman, Superman, Batgirl, Black Canary, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Flash and Green Lantern. It’s unclear if this includes Robert Pattinson’s Batman, who is likely breaking away from canon. But if this is the case, WB will likely look to keep two separate continuities in the future: one already established in the DCEU and the other in an alternate continuity that splits off.
Whatever comes out of Cavill’s and Miller’s casting for their roles, just like Batfleck, they are replaceable and the recently cast Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary in the Cathy Yan-helmed Birds of Prey could very well join Gal Gadot and Jason Momoa if this film does indeed come to fruition.
