Spider-Man: Far From Home director unsure of how the trilogy will end
By Erik Swann
Jon Watts doesn’t know how Spider-Man’s MCU trilogy will wrap up.
Spider-Man: Homecoming was the box office and critical success Sony and Marvel Studios were hoping for when it released in 2017. However, before it even hit the big screen, a sequel was already greenlit. The film, Far From Home, has yet to arrive, but people are already asking director Jon Watts about what’s in store for the third film. And his answer may surprise you.
In an interview with Screen Rant, Watts stated that he’s honestly not sure where the Spider-Man series will go after Far From Home, as he hasn’t put much thought into it. At this point, he’s aiming to stay focused on the current film before looking ahead to the future of the franchise:
"“I mean, I try to think about it one movie at a time. We’re definitely telling the story of this kid growing up, and we end the movie putting him in a very unique spot that we really haven’t seen Spider-Man in before in the films. So, I don’t know. For me, I’ll wait until the next one to start to figure out how we’re going to get to where I want it to end”."

It’s easy to get hung up on the future when it comes to big-budget filmmaking, but Watts seems to be keeping his eyes on the present. In Watt’s case this could be particularly difficult, since he knows a third installment is on the way and that he’ll likely helm it.
Still, while the folks at Marvel Studios like to keep their on attention on their current project(s), they do keep future plans in the back of their minds. This can mostly be attributed to the foresight of studio head Kevin Feige, who is holding off on making official announcements, but has still been teasing plans for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In regard to Spider-Man, fans can expect at least one more solo adventure for the young hero. Even Tom Holland once mentioned that the movie could take place during Peter Parker’s senior year. How Marvel Studios decides to conclude the trilogy is anyone’s guess. But fans still have a whole other movie to look forward to before forming their theories on that. Spider-Man: Far From Home hits theaters on July 2.
