Josh Trank, the director of 2015’s Fantastic Four, hopes Peyton Reed will get to helm a film with Marvel’s First Family.

Now that Disney, most specifically Marvel Studios, has the rights to the Fantastic Four, it’s only a matter of time before the heroes join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While the studio is currently putting the franchise on the back burner, some fans have expressed hope that Ant-Man’s Peyton Reed will direct the reboot. And now, the filmmaker has another endorsement for the job.

Josh Trank, who directed Fantastic Four back in 2015, recently took to Twitter to lend his support to a Peyton Reed-directed Fantastic Four film. In addition, if the film does indeed happen, Trank has just one request:

More from Marvel Cinematic Universe

Trank’s Fantastic Four was infamously plagued by production problems. There were reportedly numerous clashes between Trank and the executives at 20th Century Fox regarding the direction of the film. As a result, the project underwent rewrites and reshoots and, after Trank submitted his first cut of the film, changes were reportedly made without his input. The director was also reported to have been exhibiting “erratic behavior” on the set.

Ultimately, the film went on to become a critical and box office failure, with Trank expressing regrets over how things turned out. After the passing of Stan Lee last year, he even expressed his belief that he had let the late Marvel Comics legend down. More recently, the director seems to be at peace with the project, and it’s nice to see him throw support to Reed.

Reed has been a top choice to direct a Fantastic Four adaptation for a while now. Years ago, he was set to direct 2005’s Fantastic Four, but he ultimately departed the project over creative differences. Reed planned to make the film a 1960s period piece. Since revealing this pitch fans and figures in the film industry have expressed interest in seeing it.

As a lifelong comic book fan and the director of Ant-Man and Ant-Man and the Wasp, Reed is more than qualified for the job and could put a fresh spin on the property. Marvel’s First Family likely won’t return to the big screen for a while, but Marvel Studios may already have a directorial candidate on hand.
