Aunties Always Know More Than They Let On!

Thus, Sabrina walks into her house with leaves in her hair and many secrets in her head. Salem the cat doesn’t need feline senses to pick up on something suspicious. The more Sabrina denies it, the more she clues Salem in. Her aunts Hilda and Zelda notice it quickly, as well. But despite Sabrina’s manic summary of her madcap day, by the end of her account, the elder witches are not amused. In fact, they’re not even speaking. Suddenly, Sabrina’s two coddling aunties have gotten very grim.

Not even the normally open and supportive Hilda is terribly forthcoming. The pair know far more about this crisis than Sabrina does, which makes a degree of sense; they’re nearly immortal witches, and she’s only sixteen. This affair involves the mysterious “Witch Council,” and both of them believe the monsters may not be supernatural at all. Could they be the result of mad science? Zelda, in particular, lays down the law that this mystery is officially their’s now, and Sabrina is to back off.

Of course, as Sabrina fairly notes, it’s difficult for her to ignore this. The monsters are chasing her, and seemingly infesting her own school. Two of her classmates are literally intertwined with a Wendigo! And while Hilda is sympathetic, Zelda is all business. The problem is that if they can’t handle the problem, who else in Greendale can? Not even having a cat is comforting, as Salem insists he’s a “familiar,” not a pet, and is reluctant to serve as a support animal. Of course, he merely gives voice to many an independent feline whose moods can change with a good stroke.
