House of X and Powers of X may be the title change the MCU is looking for when introducing the X-Men.

The Uncanny X-Men has been one of the more intense stories in the Marvel Universe. Every week it seems like something major has happened. Another mutant, member of the X-Family, or villain is killed, Cyclops loses an eye, or someone quits. In Uncanny X-Men No. 21, Emma Frost made the world forget that mutants existed. With this new, clean slate, mutants have a chance to reinvent themselves in a world that once hated and feared them. Writer Matt Rosenberg has put the X-Men in uncharted water. When he started, we didn’t know he was leading the X-Men franchise into a new world. Two series written by super writer Jonathan Hickman (Fantastic Four and the 2016 Secrets Wars) called Powers of X and House of X will begin soon. Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada told CBR:

"“I just read House of X #1 before it headed out to the printer today and it’s hands down the most revolutionary take on the world of mutants since Grant Morrison’s run. I’m still trying to process how incredible this book is and how it will change everything in the MU.”"

That’s pretty high praise, considering all the stories that have been told since then. If this is true, then this could have more ramifications than just the comic books. We’ve seen that comic book movies affect what’s going on in the comic books themselves. This story could do the same thing, not only in the way the X-Men are in the movies, but the name X-Men as well.

Marvel Studios EVP of Production and Captain Marvel producer Victoria Alonso says that the name X-Men is outdated saying, “It’s funny that people call it the X-Men. There’s a lot of female superheroes in that X-Men group, so I think it’s outdated.” It’s been debated whether or not the name is outdated. Some will say that it’s a classic name and shouldn’t be changed. Others will say that it’s time for a change. However, you can’t deny that the name X-Men doesn’t represent the entire team.

Since the comic books and movies affect each other, the names Powers of X or House of X may be the way to go. The may not have the iconic title people are used to, but they are distinct names with powerful meanings . House of X works since the mutants might still live Xavier’s mansion and the X-Gene is what gives mutants their incredible abilities. Powers of X is also a possible idea, since it’s, again, the X-Gene, as well as a strong title. Don’t be shocked if the Marvel Cinematic Universe announces the mutant franchise and one of Jonathan Hickman’s titles is the name they go with.
