What happened to the best Ironheart script ever read? Maybe it’s time we get a Riri Williams Ironheart movie.

The Godfather of the MCU, Robert Downey Jr. set the Internet ablaze when he mentioned his desire for an Ironheart movie. Well, he’s actually not the first to mention it. In fact, on this date last year, The Black List tweeted that Jada Rodriguez’s Ironheart script was the best their readers ever read:

Since then, nothing palpable regarding this praised script has surfaced. But Downey Jr.’s comments ignited a polarizing debate. Do fans want Riri Williams as Ironheart?

After the events of Avengers: Endgame, some fans are clamoring for Riri Williams Ironheart’s story to be trashed in favor of Morgan Stark.

Furthermore, much of her story has been given to Tom Holland’s Spider-Man already. It was Riri who was brought in and mentored by Tony. She received the A.I. from Tony to help guide her heroics.

However, while not overly successful as a comic, she has a place in the Marvel Universe. She’s revered by fans because of her story, a story that resonates with today’s society one with feeling of familiarity to different audience.

Why Riri Williams Ironheart makes more sense

One can only imaging that’s what Jada Rodriguez’s script focused on, and it makes you wonder if she should have a chance to tell Riri Williams’ story.

Riri Willians was a child prodigy and tech genius who grew in the gritty streets of Chicago. She was raised alone with her older sister Sharon by her mother and stepfather.

At thirteen, during a family picnic, her friend Natalie Washington and stepfather were murdered during a drive-by. This event, if told correctly, could act as a catalyst for change in the introvert Riri Williams.

More from Marvel Cinematic Universe

Like many hero arcs, she could seek change and fight to avenge the death of her family. A young girl forced to step up when no one else will could make for a riveting story.

Imagine if the essence of The Hate U Give was captured in a comic book movie. That emotional journey merged with the main character becoming the hero gives the MCU a different type of story,

Yes, the death of family as the motivating factor behind a hero’s aspirations has been told. Still, it hasn’t been told from the perspective of teenage girl of color. So why not change that?

Black Panther lead the way and opened up the door for other heroes of color, and Marvel Studios has been looking toward more inclusive movies, according to Marvel Studios EVP of Production Victoria Alonso:

"“You don’t get to have this kind of success if the entire world doesn’t see your product. So we are determined to have everyone of those people represented in our films, in some way, at some point in time… We only make two or three movies a year, so it’s difficult to have every single one"

Riri Williams’  Ironheart gives Marvel Studios a chance to live up to their promise of inclusive movies. There’s no reason to continue to bury her by giving her name and story to someone else.

A movie based on Rodriguez’s script could give Ironheart a rejuvenating boost. Plus, we can think of some great actresses to play Riri Williams. So why let the best script from The Black List go to waste?
