DC Entertainment has announced that a sequel to 2017’s Justice League Dark is on the way.
Justice League Dark introduced viewers to an array of characters that dwell in the supernatural corner of the DC Universe, and it was ultimately able to win fans over. Now it seems the team will be back for another adventure, and this time things are going to get a bit cosmic.
DC Entertainment officially announced (via Comicbook.com) Justice League Dark: Apokolips War during the premiere of Batman: Hush at San Diego Comic-Con. Aside from the reveal, no specific plot or production details were disclosed about the film. The movie will be the 16th installment in the DC Animated Movie Universe and will arrive sometime in 2020.

Justice League Dark centered on John Constantine, Zatanna, Deadman and others being recruited by Batman to help fend off a supernatural threat. The film was directed by DC veteran Jay Olivia and held the distinction of being only the second R-rated film in the DCAMU.
While Warner Bros. and DC’s live-action films have had their ups and downs, their animated film franchise has thrived since its launch in 2014 with Justice League: War. In the years that have followed, there have been various titles like Son of Batman and Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay. The series has also featured adaptations of famous comic book storylines, including Teen Titans: The Judas Contract, The Death of Superman and the aformentioned Batman: Hush.
With the subtitle Apokolips War, it’s clear that both Apokolips and New Genesis will play key roles in the film. These cosmic backdrops are uncharted territory for these magical, but earthbound, characters. It’ll be interesting to see what circumstances bring the Justice League Dark into conflict with Apokolips. And of course, many fans will be eager to see if Darkseid makes an appearance.
