Ewan McGregor may be about to return to the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi in a brand new series.

Confirmed by Deadline, Ewan McGregor is officially in talks to reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in as of yet unnamed Disney+ series.

McGregor has previously portrayed the character in the Star Wars Prequel trilogy, as well as lending his voice in a cameo role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Obi-Wan Kenobi has also appeared in the Original Star Wars trilogy as played by Alec Guinness and Star Wars: The Clone Wars as voiced by James Arnold Taylor.

This confirmation by Deadline has come after years of speculation regarding McGregor reprising his role in various forms. It started as a long-gestating film supposedly set between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope.

After that had been circulating for years, with writers and directors reportedly being hired then leaving the project, it seemed like anything with McGregor reprising his role as Obi-Wan was dead. It’s wonderful to finally have confirmation though that we haven’t seen the last of Obi-Wan in the Star Wars universe.

Star Wars fans have been clamoring for McGregor to return to the role as he was universally the only celebrated thing about the Prequel trilogy.

Fans have come around on the Prequels over the years, including this writer, but McGregor has always been celebrated as the best part of the trilogy. Now, he’s returning to the franchise in what will more than likely be his final story as Obi-Wan Kenobi.

No details other than McGregor’s reprisal have been released about the series yet, including the title, but the series joins several other upcoming Star Wars shows on Disney+. It will be joining The Mandalorian, a Cassian Andor series, and the seventh season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars on the upcoming streaming platform.
