John Wick’s Chad Stahelski to oversee new Birds of Prey action scenes
Stahelski will take an uncredited role to help design and work on new action scenes for Birds of Prey starring Margot Robbie.
The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that John Wick director Chad Stahelski will be taking an uncredited role to oversee second unit photography for Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), Warner Bros.’ next DCEU movie starring Margot Robbie that is set to be released on February 7, 2020.
Before his work on the John Wick trilogy, Stahelski spent the majority of his time in Hollywood working in stunts primarily as a stunt double before transitioning into a behind the scenes career in roles ranging from stunt coordinator, fight coordinator, martial arts coordinator etc. He has worked on The Matrix, The Hunger Games and most recently Deadpool 2.
He has also taken on the role as a second unit director for many big blockbusters like The Hunger Games and Captain America: Civil War.
He will be taking on a similar type of role in what may be an in-house decision by Warner Bros. and other producers.
As reported in The Hollywood Reporter piece:
"“Cathy Yan is making her big studio debut as director with the high-profile entry and will work with Stahelski on the new shoots in the action realm, many times known as second unit. Stahelski, taking an uncredited role, will tackle and design new action scenes for the movie. In some ways, this is Stahelski doubling down on the movie as his company, stunt firm 87 Eleven, has been working on the movie since production began.”"

It is very common for studios to work out the finishing touches for a movie to either reshoot some scenes or shoot some additional scenes like what is going on with Birds of Prey.
Even with the ties to Stahelski’s stunt firm, he is a great choice to help assist a new director. If Robbie’s recent comments with Joe.ie are to be believed, then fans can expect a lot of great stunts in Birds of Prey. Seemingly, fans can also expect even greater action with the success and critical praise that the John Wick movies have received.
Not much is known about Birds of Prey at the moment. The only footage revealed has been a short clip titled “See You Soon.”
IMDB has described the plot:
"“After splitting with the Joker, Harley Quinn joins superheroes Black Canary, Huntress and Renee Montoya to save a young girl from an evil crime lord.”"
Robbie will be reprising her role as Harley Quinn with Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jurnee Smollett-Bell and Rosie Perez co-starring as Huntress, Black Canary and Renee Montoya respectively. Ewan McGregor is also set to co-star as Black Mask.
