Krypton: Petition launched to save the Superman prequel

In the wake of Krypton’s premature cancellation, fans have launched a petition in an attempt to save the beloved show.

Over the past two decades, superhero prequels have given us a unique look into the untold (or retold) origin stories of our favorite DC superheroes (and by “favorite superheroes” we mean Batman and Superman because they’re the only ones that Warner Bros. keeps giving prequels to).

First, we had Smallville, which told the story of a teenage Clark Kent. That was then followed by Gotham, which explored a young Bruce Wayne’s journey into Batman. And then we got Krypton – a previously untold tale about the Man of Steel’s ill-fated planet long before its destruction.

The Syfy series focused on Superman’s grandfather Seg-El (Cameron Cuffe) and, during its first season, was quite the success.

However, following a much less-successful (but well-received) second season, Syfy cancelled the series and, in the process, also silenced the planned Lobo spin-off.

Naturally, the decision to cancel the beloved show has left fans both outraged and heartbroken – so outraged and heartbroken, in fact, that they took to social media to voice their upset.

Within hours of the news breaking, #SaveKrypton was among the top trends on Twitter. And now, it seems that they’ve taken it one step further.

The show’s devoted fanbase has now launched a Change.org petition to save it, with the opening statement reading:

"“Recently, SyFy’s “Krypton” got canceled, together with its unreleased spin-off “Lobo”. Any fan of this show can say that this cancelation is unfair and that this show should’ve had 7 seasons (like originally planned by the writers).”"

So far, the petition has garnered over 250 signatures, and it’s continuing to rise by the hour. We’ve seen in the past how this kind of fan outcry can make an impact, so the question is: Will it force Syfy to rethink its decision? Or will another network swoop in to put off Krypton’s destruction until the Man of Steel actually arrives on the scene?
