The Eternals has officially added two previously-reported actors and one surprise star to its ensemble cast.
Of all the numerous films and TV shows Marvel Studios has lined up for its Phase Four slate, The Eternals is quickly becoming one of their most anticipated projects. The Chloé Zhao-directed space epic already features a star-studded cast, and it’s now added three more big names to its roster.
During the Disney D23 Expo this past weekend, studio head Kevin Feige announced that Kit Harington, Gemma Chan and Barry Keoghan had joined the film. Chan, in her second Marvel Cinematic Universe role, will play Sersi. Harington will be playing fan-favorite Marvel character Dane Whitman, who fans will know as the Black Knight. Meanwhile, Keoghan will play the Eternal known as Druig.
During the D23 presentation, the cast came on stage to greet attendees, who were also treated to concept art of the characters:
Both Chan and Harington were recently reported to be working with Marvel Studios, with the former being linked to The Eternals and the latter to the MCU in general. Keoghan’s casting, on the other hand, comes as a surprise. With her casting, Chan has become the first actor to have played two roles in two different MCU film franchises.

All three actors will be portraying classic Marvel Comics characters. Chan’s Sersi is one of the most powerful Eternals and has a storied love affair with fellow Eternal Ikaris, who will be played by Richard Madden in the film. Keoghan’s Druig is also a key member of the group but has also proven to have a somewhat sadistic nature at times. Dane Whitman, a human character, has been on Marvel Studios’ radar for a while. His link to the Eternals stems from his romance with Sersi, which could likely be explored in the movie, as well.
The Eternals will expand the cosmic realm of the MCU and introduce some interesting new characters when it arrives in theaters on November 6, 2020.
