The New Mutants: A new rumor suggests there’s still hope for the film

A new rumor could mean The New Mutants movie could still happen.
Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox properties has thrown a wrench in a few projects. Among those projects is The New Mutants. Recently a rumor from Screen Rant claimed the movie got rid of an X-Men reference. They reported that even though the source (FandomWire) can sometimes be shaky, there’s a firm chance the report is accurate. They said:
"“FandomWire is reporting The New Mutants’ latest cut removes all references to the previous Fox X-Men movies, including any lines suggesting “mutant” is a common term in the film’s universe. This changes were apparently made in case Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige decides he wants to make New Mutants part of the MCU and bring its main characters back in either Phase 5 or beyond.”"
This project has been delayed more than a few times over the last couple of years. As of right now, IMDB.com has its release date scheduled for April 2020. The thing that is worrisome is that the movie may never be released. Especially since New Mutants has a chance to revolutionize the comic book genre by giving it its first horror movie. The New Mutants aren’t as well known as their parent team, the X-Men. This writer has discussed on multiple occasions how things like this work in the creators’ favor. Since there isn’t a Wolverine or Storm on this team, they can change some things without too many fans getting upset.

Adding to the idea of having a scary comic book movie is a cast with a few well-known actors. First off, there’s Maisie Williams who’ll play Rahne Sinclair. Williams played the popular Arya Stark on Game of Thrones. We’ve already seen that she can act, and this could be yet another ongoing character for her. Anya Taylor-Joy is playing the lead character Illyana Rasputin. Anya was incredible in Split with James McAvoy and should be able to pull off Illyana. Charlie Heaton has the opportunity to keep his Stranger Things momentum going by playing Sam Guthrie. These three alone may be enough to get fans interested based on their previous projects. If Happy Anderson can deliver a great performance of the (ironically) diabolical Reverend Craig, there’s no way this movie will fail.

The New Mutants is in limbo right now. Other than the constant release date changes, there were rumors that the movie may be released on Hulu or Disney Plus. If this happens, it’s not a loss for the cast or the movie crew. As long as the movie is released, fans will have the opportunity to watch and enjoy it. If it gets a good reception on a streaming service, New Mutants could get the theatrical release they’ve been hoping for in the form of a sequel.
