Marvel’s Hawkeye series aims to add ‘Mad Men’ writer
By Erik Swann
Marvel Studios’ Hawkeye limited series has officially landed a writer in a Mad Men veteran.
Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton is slated to make his return in Marvel Studios and Disney Plus’ Hawkeye limited series. While the project is still has a way to go before it kicks off production, it has gained a writer.
THR reports that Jonathan Igla has signed on to Hawkeye as writer and executive producer. Igla’s writing credits include shows like Masters of Sex and Sorry for Your Loss, but he is best known for his work on AMC’s critically acclaimed series Mad Men. As of right now, he and Jeremy Renner are the only on-camera and behind-the-scenes talents known to be attached to the show.
Igla isn’t the first high-profile name to be added to one of Marvel Studios’ Disney Plus projects. They’ve also hired talents like Rick and Morty writer Michael Waldron for Loki and Game of Thrones’ director Matt Shakman for WandaVision.

Not much is known about Hawkeye at this point, except for that it will continue Clint Barton’s journey after Avengers: Endgame and introduce the character of Kate Bishop to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the show, Barton will seek to train Bishop as an archer in the hopes of making her a better version of himself.
Although this will be his first foray into the superhero genre, Igla’s work on Mad Men should still prove to be invaluable. Mad Men presented viewers with complex characters, who were sometimes forced to do unsavory things. Through this, the show was able to convey dramatic moments.
Clint Barton is also a character with shades of grey, especially after the events of Endgame, which saw him transform into a murderous vigilante. Igla will most likely draw from this for the series, which should make for an interesting story. Hawkeye is slated to arrive on Disney Plus in late 2021.
