Miles Joris-Peyrafitte will direct Margot Robbie’s Tank Girl movie
Dreamland director Miles Joris-Peyrafitte has been hired to direct Margot Robbie’s Tank Girl movie
Miles Joris-Peyrafitte and Margot Robbie will be working together again as Joris-Peyrafitte has been chosen to direct Robbie’s Tank Girl movie. The pair previously worked together on the 2019 indie drama Dreamland.
It was announced earlier this week that Robbie’s production company, LuckyChap Entertainment, had purchased the rights for a Tank Girl movie.
In Collider’s report, they note:
"It’s my understanding that the project will be developed as a starring vehicle for Robbie, who will produce with her LuckyChap partners Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara. The project, however, is in early development, as the producers are still waiting for a script, and Robbie won’t commit to star until she reads it."
Collider also reports that their sources say that Tank Girl will be accompanied by Jet Girl and a group of rebels as they take on a tyrannical corporation, a plot similar to the original 1995 movie. How the story will be adapted even further for a modern audience is unknown at this time.
For some fans, it may be a disappointment that a female-led comic-book movie will not be directed by a woman. The 1995 Tank Girl movie was directed by Rachel Talalay, and it was a rarity during that time to have a female director helm an action movie.

However, Robbie and Joris-Peyrafitte already have a working relationship so Robbie and LuckyChap Entertainment may have decided to keep things in-house and choose a director that they trust.
Regardless, Tank Girl will be a big opportunity for Joris-Peyrafitte. He started his career directing short films before making his directorial debut with As You Are.
If Tank Girl proves to be successful both critically and financially, this would undoubtedly lead to even more opportunities to work on bigger feature films while also giving producers incentive to support his other potential indie projects.
