DCEU: 6 actresses who could play Barbara Gordon
Jeffrey Wright’s casting as Commissioner Jim Gordon will have major implications on who the DCEU cast as Barbara Gordon/Batgirl — here are some ideas.
Last week, a bombshell was dropped, as Matt Reeves found his Jim Gordon in Westworld actor Jeffrey Wright. The casting of Wright as Commissioner Jim Gordon will have a major impact on who Warner Bros. and DC will cast as Barbara Gordon aka Batgirl/Oracle in the DCEU.
As fans of DC Comics know, Barbara is either portrayed as the niece and/or adopted daughter of Jim Gordon. Like Jim, Barbara is portrayed as white in the pages of DC Comics. But now that Wright will play Jim Gordon, will the role of Barbara Gordon likely go to a woman of color?
Yes, there are plans for Barbara to appear in the DCEU. It’s more than a rumor, with Bumblebee writer Christina Hodson set to direct a film that features either Oracle or Batgirl. With Birds of Prey being the team she organized, fans are hoping they’ll see an Oracle cameo at some point in Cathy Yan’s film.
If we take continuity into consideration, Reeves’ The Batman is theoretically a prequel to Birds of Prey. Which means Hodson’s Batgirl film will succeed Reeves’ movie. Therefore, Barbara would be relatively young in The Batman — I hope that makes sense.
Even if it doesn’t, it’s time to do the fancast thing. Before we count down, here’s the skinny. Barbara Gordon should be young, so the actresses on the list are younger than Robert Pattinson (33). Some are a little closer to his age, but it’ll make sense in the explanation.
An unknown actress is definitely a possibility but not for this list. Although, there are a couple of names that haven’t made their way into mainstream movie media yet. So let’s take a look at actresses who would make an excellent Barbara Gordon.
