Timothée Chalamet revealed that he would be interested in playing Robin in a future Batman film.

A lot of developments have been reported regarding Matt Reeves’ The Batman. A rumored shortlist of actresses for the role of Catwoman has even surfaced on the web. Now, according to Variety, Timothée Chalamet has expressed an interest in playing Robin.

Timothée Chalamet discussed the role of Robin with the trade. At present, we are not certain as to which one of the Boy Wonder’s writer/director Matt Reeves would introduce into the DC Extended Universe, though he is reported to be utilizing Dick Grayson in his upcoming film series at some point. Chalamet said:

"“I grow up – you can ask my mum, who’s here – people in the elevator would ask me when I was five-years-old, ‘What’s your name?’ and I would say Robin. Actually every director steered away from putting Robin [in a movie] well, actually Zack Snyder had a flashback of Robin, but it was like three seconds and I don’t even know if it was Robin by name but they’ve steered away from it because it’s hard to do dramatically or something, and I… I’m not averse to those universes.”"

The French-American actor, who recently appeared in Netflix’s The King, never was specific as to what the role meant to him. But it’s clear his interest in the role is apparent, and he didn’t necessarily say he was opposed to the role.

More from DCEU

Robin has not appeared in a live-action motion picture since Chris O’Donnell’s portrayal of the character in the infamous Batman & Robin back in 1997. The most praised live-action versions of the famous sidekick have been on the smaller screen. Brenton Thwaites is currently portraying Dick Grayson, while Curran Walters is playing the role of his successor, Jason Todd, on the DC Universe series Titans.

In the case of Chalamet, he certainly looks the part of Robin and could maybe even pass as one that’s not Grayson, especially the Tim Drake incarnation of the Boy Wonder. Chalamet has been nominated for a number of awards, including an Academy Award, BAFTA, Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild and Critics Choice Award. He also received 44 wins on the independent film circuit.

While it all depends on the success of the Reeves–helmed Batman solo film, Warner Bros. intends to kick off a trilogy of films. Being attached to such a franchise is an enormous undertaking and, for someone of Chalamet’s caliber, it might not be something he would want to commit to. What do you think?
