Zoe Kravitz has been tapped to play Catwoman in Matt Reeves’ The Batman.
Casting is currently underway for Matt Reeves’ The Batman, with the most recent announcements centered on the supporting cast. Now, we have confirmation that an A-list actress will be playing a major role in the film.
THR is among many news outlets reporting that Zoe Kravitz has been cast as Selina Kyle (a.k.a. Catwoman) in Matt Reeves’ The Batman. According to the trade, Kravitz screen-tested for the role earlier this month with lead actor Robert Pattinson. Ultimately, she won the role, beating out Ana de Armas, Ella Balinska and Eiza Gonzalez.
It’s been widely reported that Matt Reeves was searching for a woman of color to play Selina Kyle, and recently-reported shortlist seemed to indicate that. Interestingly, Kravitz’s name was not included in the list, which featured names like Tessa Thompson and Lupita Nyong’o.

Although she’s been acting since she was a teenager, Kravitz has truly made a name for herself in both film and television over the past few years. The actress gained critical acclaim for her performance in HBO’s Emmy-winning show Big Little Lies. She’s also best known for starring in films like Dope, Mad Max: Fury Road, the Divergent franchise and the Fantastic Beasts films. In addition, she’s no stranger to the superhero genre, having had roles in X-Men: First Class, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and The Lego Batman Movie, where she ironically voiced Catwoman.
Kravitz is an inspired choice for the role of Selina Kyle, as she has the charm, wit and allure that Kyle possesses, which should play well with Pattinson’s stoic nature. And as a young actress, she can play this role well into the future. Matt Reeves is crafting a strong cast thus far, and we’ll be waiting anxiously to see who he casts next. The Batman is slated to hit theaters on June 25, 2021.
