With Catwoman just being cast, it looked like things were on the up and up for The Batman but, now, another problem has popped up for the troubled pre-production of Matt Reeves’ film.

Deadline is reporting that talks have broken down between Warner Bros. and Jonah Hill regarding a role in The Batman. Various reports came out several weeks ago corroborating that Hill was in talks to either play The Riddler or Penguin, but that is no longer the case.

No details were given as to why talks broke down, but there’s a high probability it was regarding money or the size of the role. According to Deadline, there had been interest from production regarding Seth Rogen taking the place of Hill, but no offers had reportedly been given yet.

This is yet another setback in the long-troubled film that was originally going to star Ben Affleck, who was also going to write and direct. Matt Reeves (Let Me In, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) came onto the project, and it was assumed that Ben Affleck was still attached to star. However, with Robert Pattinson having been cast as Batman, one has to wonder if this was ever the case. So given the track record for the development of the project, it’s no surprise that it would stumble into another roadblock.

On the more positive side, Zoe Kravitz, a mere few days ago, was cast as Catwoman, making her the seventh live-action Catwoman. Jeffrey Wright has been added to the cast, as well, as the newest incarnation of Commissioner Gordon. Even without Hill, there’s plenty of star power to go around.

Hopefully, this will be the last hiccup for The Batman going forward, as it’s been in constant flux since it began to be developed. With the talent involved behind and in front of the camera now though, there’s high potential for the film to be excellent. The Batman is slated to hit theaters on June 25, 2021.
