Lucasfilm seems to be keeping it in the family, with a Rogue One writer being brought onto the upcoming Disney Plus Cassian Andor series.

An exclusive from Variety reveals that the upcoming Cassian Andor series will be bringing back a co-writer of Rogue One, Tony Gilroy. Gilroy will be writing the pilot episode of the show and will also direct several of the later episodes. Stephen Schiff will still be on the series as the showrunner. Gilroy was an uncredited writer on Rogue One at first, but as production continued and reshoots began, he took a more active role. As such, he was given a screenwriter credit on the final product.

Other than being credited on Rogue One, Gilroy has had an extensive career. He wrote and directed Michael Clayton, which earned him nominations for Best Original Screenplay and Best Director at the Academy Awards. As for his other franchise work, he also directed the fourth film in the Bourne franchise, The Bourne Legacy.

More from News

The untitled Cassian Andor series will focus on the character prior to the events of Rogue One. It would honestly be shocking if they focused on the character after the events of Rogue One, given that he was killed during the film’s finale.

When it was announced around a year ago, the show was described as “a rousing spy thriller,” which will make it different from much of the rest of Star Wars canon. Both Diego Luna and Alan Tudyk will be reprising their roles as Cassian Andor and K-2S0, respectively. Not much else is really known about the series at this time other than it’s expected to drop on Disney Plus in 2021.

While waiting for the series though, there’s plenty of Star Wars media coming out over the next several months to satisfy fans. In November, EA’s Star Wars: Jedi – Fallen Order video game will be released, and The Mandalorian will premiere on Disney Plus. Additionally, The final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars will premiere in February on the streaming service. And the cherry on top, is Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which will hit theaters on December 20.
