Naomie Harris is reportedly signing on to play the secondary antagonist, Shriek, in Venom 2.
Production for Andy Serkis’ Venom 2 is ramping up, with the film’s main cast starting to take shape. It was recently reported that the Marvel Comics villain Shriek would be included in the comic book sequel. And now it looks like the film has found an actress to play the dangerous villain.
Variety reports that Naomie Harris is in final negotiations to play Shriek in Venom 2. Although Harris will star opposite lead Tom Hardy, she’ll likely share most of her screen time with the film’s primary antagonist, Carnage, played by Woody Harrelson. Interestingly, this news comes days after reports that Serkis and the studio were eying unknown actresses for the role.
Harris joins a cast that features Hardy, Harrelson and Michelle Williams, who are all reprising their roles from the original movie. Andy Serkis will also direct from a screenplay written by Kelly Marcel.

Naomie Harris has had a varied career, having been in blockbusters like the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, the James Bond series, Miami Vice and Rampage. Of course, she’s also done her fair share of work in the world of indie filmmaking through films like Explicit Ills and Moonlight, the latter garnering her critical acclaim and numerous awards nominations.
Shriek is one of the most dangerous villains in the Marvel Universe and has the ability to fly, manipulate sound and tap into people’s minds. She made her first appearance in the storyline “Maximum Carnage” during which she embarked on a killing spree with the titular symbiote. The inclusion of her character indicates that the film could at least partially adapt the fan-favorite story arc.
Harris has the ability to transform and play dangerous or unpredictable characters, which makes her a nice fit for Shriek. Venom 2 hits theaters on October 2, 2020.
